Geographic focus
CMI invests in microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Asia and Africa, provided that the countries selected show a reasonable level of economic, political and social stability.

Type of MFI
MFIs with a commercial drive willing to grow their reach and improve their financial performance are the optimal investment candidates for CMI. Any type of institution may qualify: banks, non-bank financial Institutions, co-operatives and NGOs, provided such institution is willing and able to transform into a commercial for-profit institution.

Stage of development
Focus on emerging, high-potential MFIs that have not necessarily reached full sustainability yet, i.e. NGOs that are currently transforming into for-profit organizations, expanding MFIs and start-ups.
